"I think we're really right on the edge of something really, really big"

So what do my scan results mean?  What does a response to the IPI really mean?

Watch this video.  It's the guy who developed the drug (he's my hero right now).  A lot of it is technical, but listen to the things he says that are easy to understand.

Isn't that cool?!  He was curing cancers across the board in mice.  Not just melanoma.

The first human trial participants were given just one dose (sound familiar?) and it produced three objective responses.  One of the ladies is still around to chat 10 years after that dose.

What does this mean?  This means I have a chance for a long-term response, guys.  A chance!  It's the very thing!

This means Death, if he has been hungry for me, is going to have to starve for a while.  This drug is giving me time!

This means the world to me, really.  I know I'm not out of the woods yet, but I have reached a clearing, and I very well may find myself on the other side someday.  We don't really know, "We are in the middle of it."

My boys now pray every night, "We are so grateful for modern medicine."  Followed by, "Please bless that all of mom's cancer to go away."

How 'bout it science?

  2. I echo your boys' prayers. Modern medicine is a blessing, especially in cases such as yours. We should get a bunch of the Ricks gang together and go back to Mexico to celebrate!

  3. Aaron's prayers are similar to your boys: "Please bless Alisa's cancer to go away ALL THE WAY." We're also saying many, many prayers of gratitude.

  4. Its too bad that only a fraction of people are long term responders but so wonderful that you look like one of them! His trials sound exciting too. So cool, thanks for sharing

  6. That is kinda how our prayers go too. I sure hope you are around to chat about it for MUCH longer than 10 years! Don't even look back at Death and give it the satisfaction of your acknowledgement. Life seems so much better an option.

  12. CHEERS CHEERS CHEERS from California! So grateful for miracles, both in our personal lives and in the medical breakthroughs we all enjoy. Just watched a documentary called "Food Matters" and have been wondering if you've had lots of people encouraging you to explore nutrion as another healing option. I am not a foodie or nutritionist or health food nut, but the documentary is pretty compelling. God bless you as you continue to work through this. Each new day is a gift for all of us, and you've helped me remember that!

  13. I have been following your story for years, either via your blog, or I just ask Phil and Heidi, This is such great news! I have had tears for the past little bit thinking about it and I thought I should post to let you know that we are sending prayers and support and wish you the best!!!! And even more good news is now those beautiful boys are 1 year closer to serving missions....how wonderful. They'll be little warriors out there having such awesome parents to teach them.
