We're Home

We are home tonight, recovering from a very long week. I have gained 23 pounds of water dispersed throughout the body, there is fluid in my lungs, thrush on my tounge, I have no appetite, explosive diarrhea, my skin is red like a sun burn and itches everywhere.

I know these are good signs, it means my body is attacking my body, this means my body is on high attack. Through the high fevers, rigors (uncontrollable shivering,) and confusing times, I could hear myself say, we can do hard things, we can do hard things, and often times I wanted to say, SHUT UP!

The End -
Alisa

  3. Ew. Sometimes you just have to endure. Just like my kids in a scary movie, it is possible to endure with your eyes closed. I hope you can get some rest!

  4. I'm so glad you're home, but so sorry that you feel so terrible. You can do hard things, but that doesn't mean doing those hard things has to be fun. Love you all!

  10. I am so grateful to be able to reply here. Dumb me, it took quite a bit of looking to figure out how. I was Paul's roommate in college and a companion in Norway. You may remember me.
I went through cancer and was supposed to die by 93%. Since I'm writing this, I made the 7%. So far, so good.
I recently sailed a small sailboat from Miami out in the Atlantic ocean north of and east of Bahamas, south to Cuba, around east end and on to Jamaica. It was about the hardest thing I've ever done. Scary, too. Sailing for days, high winds, 12-15 waves, then night comes. I'm so tired I sometimes sail in circles falling asleep. Sailing in the black of night, wind howling, I keep saying, "I can do this! I can do hard things." We can do hard things. We can't drop anchor and hop off for awhile. We just keep doing hard things because that is what the situation demands of us. We just keep doing hard things.
My love to you and family as you continue doing hard things, because, after all, there just really isn't any other acceptable alternative.
